I lingered in bed at the remote community forest campsite and then drove down a dirt road in search of the surrounding mountains. I was unable to find them but did enjoy the quiet woods and streams. Eventually I returned out of the forest and was able to see the mountains clearly from the farmland below.
I passed many scenic farms along these country roads.
I then drove to some mountain lakes, including this one called Cle Elum Lake. I also visited a former railroad depot at the nearby town, one stop on the 100 mile long old railroad route, now converted into a nature trail.
The prettiest lake was the more remote Lake Kachness Lake. I found a secluded free campsite along the dirt road leading to this wonderfully peaceful body of water and relaxed there watching videos and catching up on the world.
